Artist Member Sofiya Inger is one of the featured artists in the Dean Johnson Gallery's new exhibition Dreamtime opening tomorrow, May 1 (in conjunction with First Friday). She will be exhibiting paintings (see painting above) and fabric sculptures inspired by dreams.

Naturally Inspired Paint Out

Congratulations to Artist Member Casey Jo Ailes for being accepted to participate in this year's Naturally Inspired Paint Out at the Indianapolis Zoo. Casey will be painting from 10 - 4 (or longer if the weather is nice) on May 2.

Once again, the Indianapolis Zoo will be the site of a unique art experience. Selected artists from around Indiana will be on grounds at the Zoo and White River Gardens on May 2 painting
en plein air
their favorite subjects from the natural world. Artists are free to choose any subject they like, from the beautiful flowers and butterflies in the Gardens to the majestic giraffes and elephants at the Zoo. The public is invited to come and witness the artists at work on grounds!

The finished paintings will be on display in the Schaefer Rotunda at the Gardens from May 29-August 27, then the works will be auctioned off at the Naturally Inspired Paint Out Reception on August 27 with all proceeds benefitting the Zoo. Information on reserving your spot at the Reception will be available later this year. Cost is $10 for Zoo members & guests and $25 for non-members. This event is presented in partnership with The Great Frame Up of Indianapolis.

Art Center seeks volunteers for George Rickey Exhibit

The Indianapolis Art Center is looking for volunteers to gallery sit for the George Rickey Exhibition, A Life in Art. in the Sarah M. Hurt and Allen W. Clowes Galleries. This exhibit will feature rare and early works including 2D pieces as well as his more well known sculptural works.

We will need gallery sitters from Saturday, June 27 through Friday, August 21.

Shifts:

Monday - Fridays: 10am - 1pm; 1pm - 4pm; 4pm - 7pm

Saturdays: 11am - 2pm; 2pm - 5pm

Sundays: 12pm - 3pm; 3pm - 6pm

There is internet access in the galleries. Each hour worked counts as $1 towards a class.

Also, we encourage all volunteers to come to the public opening on Sunday, June 28 from 2pm - 4pm. George's son, Phil Rickey, will be here to speak about the art work.

This gallery has no set hours so be sure to attend one of the two openings if you want to see this work.

More than 70 artists will open their studios during the Stutz Artist Open House. Unlike traditional Gallery shows, in addition to seeing the artwork, you will have the ability to meet the artist and see the studio where it was created. Artwork on display ranges from more traditional works to installation art.

Entrances to the Open House are on 10th and 11th Streets. There is free parking on Capitol, Senate, and on 11th St, and in designated parking lots around the area.

Call to Artists: Athenaeum seeks Exhibitors

The Athenaeum ArtSpace, Indy's newest art venue, is seeking artists for its May First Friday exhibition. Artists of all media are encouraged to submit work to this non-juries "spring-themed" exhibition*. Artists are welcome to submit multiple works.

All hanging art should be framed and ready to hang. All sculpture or 3D work should be a reasonable weight and size for ease of transport. This is a three week long exhibition. All work must be delivered between April 27 - 29 and picked up between May 20 - 22.

The William Bonifas Fine Arts Center is calling for entries for it's juried show Fires Around the Lakes Ten Years After. Open to all glass artists working in the Great Lakes area (MI, WI, MN, IL, IN, OH, PA, NY, & Ontario). Qualifying artists may submit up to 3 entries in any glass technique, including, but not limited to, blown, cast, fused, lampworked, mosaic, neon, painted, and/or stained glass. Work must be original and completed in the last 2 years. Please Note: No substitutions for accepted artworks will be allowed.

About the Juror: Herb Babcock currently serves as Chairman of Glass Department at the College for Creative Studies in Detroit, MI and has been a professor at CCS since 1974. He received his BFA from the Cleveland Institute of Arts and his MFA from the Cranbrook Academy of Art.

Valued at $6,000 per artist, the Stutz Artist Association Residency Grant is one of the larget grants to an individual artist in the state. The two winning artists will receive free studio space and utilities in the Stutz Building for one year.

First Friday Bonanza!!!

1st Friday at the Curve -
Central Library - 40 E. St. Clair St. - Free - 7:00 - 9:00 pm
This free after hours event will serve as the opening artists' reception for "The Future: A New Digital Youth Art Exhibit" - Emcee is Lord of the Yum Yum and music by "30 grown up dorks" Mucca Pazza.

This exhibit features work from the Indianapolis Art Center's Artreach programs Concord Neighborhood Center students.

The Indianapolis Downtown Artists and Dealers Association (IDADA) is hosting its 3rd "First in Line" exhibit. It's only annual fundraiser, all artwork is donated by the artists and proceed go to the IDADA's general fund used to promote and serve galleries and artists in Indianapolis.

All work is priced at $100 - first come, first served.

Also that evening in the same building in various studios: Nan's Jewelry, Dave Voelpel's Abstractions, Dru Cadaver, Matt Davey debuts his new space, The Pastry Station - Chef Pilar will be featuring cakes - and will have a couple at Wug's, and the Reutz Cafe will be catering the opening.
