Arts Council of Indianapolis Gallery 924's Inaugural Exhibition.  Opening reception is from 6-9 pm.  Glass artist Ben Johnson's work is informed by texture, color theory, natural occurrences and the way living organisms affect one another. Johnson's first major exhibition in Indiana will highlight his current Host series.  Applying his extensive studies of glass working to contemporary sculpture, Johnson's work features raised patterns, underlying colors, and interior visual surfaces.
 
As Indianapolis' newest fine art exhibition space, Gallery 924 provides a mix of programming highlighting Central Indiana contemporary artists, including solo shows and collaborations with partner organizations.  The 1300 square foot gallery is located in the former home of Rollerland and the new home of the Arts Council of Indianapolis.

The Harrison Center and IACED (Indiana Association for Community Economic Development) are joining forces to present HOMEWARD BOUND, an art show and "phantom" walk fundraiser for Homeward Bound - Central Indiana, a project of IACED to benefit Aspire Indiana, Gennesaret Free Clinics, Hamilton County Neighborhood Development (HAND), Homeless Initiative Program, Horizon House, Interfaith Hospitality Network, Midtown Community Mental Health Center and the Julian Center. Participants in the "walk" will tour the Harrison Center in lieu of a traditional 5K walk.
The Harrison Gallery will feature a group show with art inspired by the idea of home. Participating artists are Kathryn Barnes Dart, Catherine Schlebecker, Tyler Meuninck, Patrick Flaherty and Brent Aldrich.

Painter and illustrator Joani Rothenberg has worked as an art therapist for 20 years. But 12 years ago, after what had been a stressful week on the job for her husband, she enrolled him in a glass-blowing class at the Indianapolis Art Center.

"It was an escape," said Dr. Jeffrey Rothenberg about his venture into the art world. "No one could get hurt but me; it wasn't life and death. It wasn't a form of expression; it was something outside of what I do for a living."

Since then, it has become an avocation.

"And as you can tell, I've gone crazy," said the vice chairman of obstetrics and gynecology and faculty president of the School of Medicine at Indiana University, who created 140 pieces for a recent Kinsey Institute fundraiser in Manhattan and makes free-hand, blown and cast pieces, many of which he donates to charitable causes.

Together, the Rothenbergs are displaying their artistic talents in "Jeff and Joani Rothenberg, With a Little Help From Their Friends: A Multimedia Experience," an exhibit at the Cultural Art Gallery at Indiana University Purdue University-Indianapolis. In addition to works by the Rothenbergs, the exhibit also includes furniture, photography and other media by several of their artist friends.

Rothenberg creates glass art that often reflects his work as a physician.

THE FARM: IMAGES FROM THE HEARTLAND Call for entries

The Lake County Heritage Farm Foundation, in cooperation with the Lake County Discovery Museum and LakeCounty Art League, has issued a call for entries for artists, eighteen years or older, from Illinois, Wisconsin and Indiana. The topic is farm scenes--buildings, equipment, animals, farm fields, crops, and people. The art will be juried, and prizes will be awarded. Work of winning artists will be displayed at the Discovery Museum at Lakewood from August 21^st  through November 14

Any original two-dimensionalmedium reproducible by photographic process is acceptable. Computer-generatedor digital art must be labeled as such. Three-dimensional work is alsoacceptable as is original photography. Giclees are not acceptable. Work will bejudged on originality of concept, technical expertise and emotional impact.

Each of the winning artists willbe eligible for Awards of Excellence in the amount of $300, $200 and $100 for first,second and third place positions. A Special Award of $250 will be given for a Lake County, Illinois,image. Well-known artists and teachers, Nina Weiss and Frances E. Vail, willact as jurors for the exhibit.

Sculpture on the Avenues to open its 12th exhibition

The city of Effingham, IL is pleased to announce a solicitation for works to be exhibited in the 12th Annual Sculpture on the Avenues outdoor exhibition. The current exhibition features over 35 sculptures, of which 20 are permanent pieces. This year's exhibition will be displayed in the downtown area and also be expanded to the areas around St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital and the Cross at the Crossroads.


An honorarium of $500 will be awarded for each piece exhibited, and artists selected will also be considered for the Leonardo Nierman Award, which is a cash prize of $1,000. The winner of the award is selected by the public through a voting process.

The Indianapolis Art Center Exhibitions Department is extending the deadline for accepting digital proposals for the 2011—12 exhibition season and for outdoor work for ARTSPARK.

Proposals will be accepted until February 28, 2010. Any artist may submit a proposal to be considered for a solo or group exhibition by sending a complete artist's packet to Exhibits Department, 820 E. 67th St. Indianapolis, IN 46220

Please send a CD and include:

• an artist statement

• a resume or biography

• 12-15 images of individual works (details may be included)

• A list with title, media, size, and year completed for each image

• support documents such as reviews of prior exhibitions

• a detailed diagram of the proposed layout if it is an installation

• videotapes of performance work may also be included as part of the packet.

In addition, please answer the two following questions:

1. The Indianapolis Art Center’s outreach department provides programming to    underserved audiences through a variety of programs, educating and engaging the community in all aspects of the creative process. Would you volunteer any time to lead a workshop, provide a tour of your work to youth at the Art Center, or speak to youth at a community center about your career and artwork?        
2. The Indianapolis Art Center has an extensive education program. Would you be interested in lecturing, leading a tour, or offering a workshop to coincide with your exhibition?

Priority will be given to artists living or working within 250 miles of Indianapolis, however, all proposals will be given equal consideration. All proposals collected during the year will be reviewed during March 2010 for the 2011-12 season, and you will be notified about your status before the end of June 2010. Your work may be paired with that of other artists in a group exhibition. Proposal materials will not be returned unless the artist provides a SASE.

South Bend Museum of Art Seeks Outdoor Sculpture

The South Bend Museum of Art (SBMA) is seeking outdoor sculpture for "Sculpture at the Airport 2010-2012”, a collaborative project between the South Bend Regional Airport and the SBMA. The two year
installation/exhibition will highlight 10 artists.

Works can be steel, bronze, wood, stone, or synthetic materials and should be substantial enough to stand up to the elements and limited public interaction for the two year period. Sculptures will be installed on 12’ X 12’ cement pads with individual signs and night lighting. Artists will receive a $1,200 stipend ($600 on delivery/$600 on pick-up). Installation will take place during early-mid June 2010.

Please send a resume, 10 images of current work, SASE and a description or documentation of the proposed work for exhibition. Deadline is April 1, 2010.

Artists are Invited to Register for Cumberland Arts Goes to Market

Artists of all media are invited to register for The Second Annual Cumberland Arts Goes to Market, August 21, 2010, 8 a.m. - 3 p.m.  This unique art, craft and music festival will be held alongside the Town of Cumberland Farmers Market.

Booth fee is $20.00 per 10x10 booth.  Vendor registration forms are available online at www.cumberlandfbc.org or call 317-894-2645.  Early registration is encouraged as the festival will offer a variety of mediums, with careful attention given to an even range of techniques.

The Festival vendor/exhibition booths will line Saturn Street on the path between Cumberland Town Hall and Cumberland First Baptist Church.   The location is on the border of Marion and Hancock Counties, 4 miles east of I-465 off of Washington (U.S. 40).  Free event admission and parking.

Big Car Collective Seeks Artists for Made for Each Other

Big Car Collective is hosting a meeting for people interested in participating in the Made for Each Other community art series. The goals of this meeting are to share general information, gather ideas and find out how you might want to contribute. The series of seven social practice projects will engage both artists and residents in seven Indianapolis neighborhoods in 2010. Internationally recognized social practice artist Harrell Fletcher is working with Big Car on the series funded by a $50,000 grant from the GINI Imagine Big program. Indianapolis Art Center announces new exhibition opportunity

Day of the Dead is a Mexican tradition that demonstrates a strong sense of love and respect for one’s deceased ancestors through the creation of altars. Equivalent to Memorial Day in many respects, Day of the Dead focuses on celebrating the continuance of life, family relationships and community solidarity. The Indianapolis Art Center hosts a large scale Day of the Dead Altar Exhibition each year that includes 15-20 altars created by artists, schools, community groups and individuals. The Art Center is looking to incorporate shows in other galleries of the building during this time(October 8 – November 28, 2010) that share a common thread or connection to this Day of the Dead show. We are looking for artist’s whose work may touch on the following themes: family or ancestry, storytelling, memorials, community or tradition.

Who should propose a body of work?:
Any artist who has a collection of work that is connected to one of the themes above. 2D or 3D work is welcome. A group show incorporating multiple artists who focus on one
of the themes above is also welcome. Applicants will be considered for either a
solo show or a group show depending on the submissions received. Artists
interested in having a solo show would need between 20-35 works.

What your proposal needs to include:

• An artist statement with a half page written explanation of what you are proposing

• 12-15 digital images on a CD of the work you are proposing, also include with these images an image description sheet with prices of each piece of work

• A resume

Exhibition
The Fort Wayne Museum of Art’s Contemporary Realism Biennial is a national invitational and juried exhibition which highlights the strength and innovation of America’s current trends in realism. Works by six recognized contemporary masters of the field will anchor this exhibition, including: Audrey Flack, Caleb O’Connor, Luigi Benedicenti, and Ralph Goings. Paintings, sculpture and drawings by over 60 additional realists will be juried into the exhibition.

Eligibility
Open to all artists who are 18 years and older who reside or exhibit regularly in the United States, and work in a realistic or representational style.

Only paintings, drawings, and sculpture are eligible.
Works submitted for jury process must have been created after June 1, 2004.
Two-dimensional work should not exceed 72 inches in any direction.
Three-dimensional work should not exceed 150 pounds and 40 inches in any direction.
All work must be prepared for display (no sawtooth hangers).

Important Dates:
April 2, 2010 - Deadline for submission
April 23, 2010 - Notification sent to artists
August 6, 2010 - Deadline for delivery of artwork
September 4, 2010 - Exhibition opens to the public
September 10, 2010 - Exhibition opening reception

Awards and Catalog
Artists juried into the exhibition are eligible for three $2,000 cash prizes and the FWMoA Purchase Award. Awards will be presented at the opening reception on Friday, September 10, 2010.

A full color catalog will accompany the exhibition. Each exhibiting artist will receive five complimentary copies of the catalog.

Each artist may submit up to 3 digital images for a non-refundable fee of $35 ($25 for Museum members) or up to 6 digital images for a non-refundable fee of $50 ($40 for Museum members).

Publicity

Insurance

All artworks selected for the exhibition will be covered by the Museum’s Fine Arts Insurance Policy at a mutually agreeable value while the artwork is on the premises.

Shipment of Artwork: Delivery and Return
Artists are responsible for all shipping expenses to and from the exhibition. Accepted artists will receive shipment instructions from FWMoA Registrar upon admittance to the Biennial. A limited schedule for hand deliveries will be available.

Artist Eligibility:
Artists over 18 years of age are eligible. Work selected for the gallery sale must be original, handcrafted, and completed after April 1, 2008.

Artwork Eligibility:
Artist-made original works in the following categories will be considered:

• Ceramics: A funcational object made of shaped and fired clay (including earthenware, porcelain, stoneware and terra cotta).

• Collage: The use of several materials (such as cardboard, fabric, glass, leather, metal, paper, photographs, string and wood) to form a wall relief design.

• Glass: A functional object made of glass (including blown glass and stained glass).

• Jewelry: The use of several different materials (such as clay, glass, metal and wood) to form a body adornment.

• Painting: The use of oil, acrylic, or watercolor on canvas or board.

• Photography: Images and designs produced on a sensitized surface (such as film or paper).

• Printmaking: Traditional, hand-pulled prints (such as lithographs, silkscreens, woodcuts and etchings) created in limited editions.

• Sculpture: A non-functional, three-dimensional object made of materials such as clay, fabric, glass, leather, metal, stone, or wood.

• Wearable Art: Clothing or non-jewelry accessories in any medium and fabricated by the artist.

• Works on Paper: A two-dimensional design on paper (including drawings, wtchings, monoprints, graphic design, pastels and watercolors).

• 3-D Crafts: A functional, three-dimensional object made of any material other than ceramics or glass (including fiber objects and furniture).

Selection Process:
All participating artists will be selected by a jury from the images submitted.Please submit up to three images representational of your artwork for review. Jury decisions are final and artists will be notified by March 15, 2010.

Number of Works:
Artists who receive notification of acceptance into Art 4 Sale 2010are asked to send up to and as many works from the following categories. Works sent MUST be in the same medium as represented in the submitted images.

Sculptures Needed for Temporary Sculpture Garden, Zionsville

Sculpture artists are wanted for a temporary Sculpture Garden in Lincoln Park during the annual Brick Street Gallery Walk in Zionsville on June 25, 2010 from 6pm-10pm sponsored by the Zionsville Arts Initiative.

Please submit up to 3 jpg images with dimensions.  Sculptures made of metal, ceramic, bronze, cement, etc. are welcome as long as the pieces are weather resistant.  Please indicate if electricity is needed.  Artists are encouraged to attend the event to talk to visitors about their work.  Demonstrations are welcome.

Sculptures will be paired up with poets for poetry readings that evening.
All work will need to be picked up at the conclusion of the event at 10pm.
