Paint the Town Seeks Volunteers

Paint the Town (PTT)

A simple idea: we are a group of people who like to paint houses and there are a bunch of our neighbors who need their houses painted.

Paint the Town or PTT is an enormously successful program from Cincinnati that is in its inaugural year here in Indianapolis. The idea is that painting houses on a particular block will help improve the appearance and serve as a great way to bring the neighborhood together. We have identified homeowners that are in need of a fresh coat of paint and for a number of reasons have been unable to complete the project on their own. PTT will provide volunteers, supplies and expertise to homeowners for the purpose of repainting their home’s exterior.

We will be repainting 3 homes on Saturdays from May to September in partnership with the Southeast Neighborhood Development Corporation’s (SEND) revitalization effort in the Bates-Hendricks Neighborhood.

Our first project will be completed in May on the following dates. We need 15 volunteers for each morning and afternoon shift:
  • May 8th [Morning Shift 8am-12pm] [Afternoon Shift 1-5pm]
  • May 15th [Morning Shift 8am-12pm] [Afternoon Shift 1-5pm]
  • May 22nd [Morning Shift 8am-12pm] [Afternoon Shift 1-5pm]

Where:
The work site for our first project this summer will be on the 1500 block of S. Alabama St. You will need to park in the back of Sister’s Place Restaurant (Corner of Terrace and Madison Ave) and walk to the worksite 2 blocks away.

Dress:
We will equip you with all the supplies you will need to complete the work. You must come with closed toe shoes (preferably work boots) and pants that you can get paint on. (Please no shorts or skirts) We recommend short sleeve t-shirts, but depending on the weather in the morning, you might want long sleeves. A white ball cap/bandana and sunglasses are also recommended. Assume that anything that you wear will get paint on it!

If interested in signing up for a shift or if you have questions please contact Matt Impink at 317-443-3535 or mrimpink@gmail.com

  1. This is crazy! I was just in Cincinnati last weekend and drove one of these neighborhoods and came back talking to friends about how we should do this in Indy! I am so excited that the initiative has already been taken. I look forward to working with you in the future :)
