Call for Artists, White River State Park Public Sculpture (Indianapolis, IN)

White River State Park is pleased to announce that it will continue to support an exterior sculpture exhibition program. The primary purpose of this exhibition is to enhance the artistic and cultural opportunities within the state. After each cycle, the Park has continued to make changes to the program. The program is now open to any sculptor in Indiana or the Midwest. While the Park will continue to display at least six large-scale interior sculptures reflecting diversity of materials, approaches and content on the Old washington Street Bridge (now a pedestrian walkway connecting venues on the east and west sides of the river) in White River State Park there have been a couple of changes. Rather than change out all of the sculptures every two years, only two sculptures will change every year and the period of time the work is displayed will be 3 years. 

The Park is the only urban state park in the country and is located in the heart of downtown Indianapolis. The New York Times has referred to the Park as "Indianapolis' version of the Mall in Washington." In addition to acres of green spaces in the Park, it is also home to six major tourist attractions, with over 3 million visitors each year. 

The work must be constructed of materials able to endure the conditions of an outdoor exhibition. The sculptures must be suitable for public display and not present safety issues. Artists must be 18 years or older. Each selected artist will be awarded a $5,000 honorarium for his or her participation. In addition, the Park will pay up to a maximum of $5,000 in expenses to help transport the sculpture to and from Indianapolis and the installation and removal of the piece from the park. 10-12 electronic images (labeled with name, medium, dimensions and date) on a CD of pieces of art available for the exhibition must be postmarked no later than January 28, 2011. 

Also include the following: image annotation script; resume; artist's vision and thoughts in creating the sculpture; a self-addressed stamped envelope if CD is expected to be returned. Installation Artists Sought for Public Projects

Indianapolis-based installation artists are sought for potential public projects. Each artist will be given a stipend and provided with the location and materials to create the work.

“My first solo show in America, Looking at the Sky, took place in 1999 at the JCC and spoke about home lost and about change that was not easy. Only a few short years in Indiana, still trying to find ground under my feet and growing new roots, I found a place that was warm and friendly, a place full of life and a wonderful positive energy.” Working in acrylic on fabric and other mixed media, Sofiya’s work evokes feelings of master artist Marc Chagall. She paints emotions, and in the center of her work is still a human heart. Inger received her Fine Arts degree from the Kirov School of Art in Russia and studied textile design at the Fashion Institute of Technology (F.I.T.) in New York City.

Indiana Coalition for the Arts Foundation Seeks Nominations

Indiana Coalition for the Arts Foundation, Inc. seeks nominations for their annual Community Arts Leadership Awards. INCAF will honor four outstanding Hoosiers for their part in advancing the cause of community and local arts in Indiana.

The award ceremony will be held in Indianapolis at the Statehouse on February 21, 2011 during the Arts Day celebration. Arts Day is an annual arts advocacy event presented by the Indiana Coalition for the Arts where the diversity and importance of the arts in the state is promoted and honored.


INCAF seeks to honor individuals who have contributed to the arts in four categories: Arts Administrator, Arts Educator, Arts Advocate, and Volunteer Board Member or Arts Leader.Award recipients and their respective nominators will be guests at the Arts Day event. Recipients are encouraged to bring family, friends and colleagues to participate in the Indiana Community Arts Leadership awards ceremony and Arts Day event.

The deadline to nominate an arts leader is January 14, 2011 and nominators must be members of the Indiana Coalition for the Arts or Indiana Coalition for the Arts Foundation.

Call For Entries: The 2nd Annual Juried Photography Exhibition

The 2nd Annual Juried Photography Exhibition “Of Memory, Bone and Myth” is open to national artists of all levels (18 years and over). This exhibition is open to any photographic media except video. All photographs must be framed no larger than 28" x 30". This year's juror is Paul Cava, artist, collector, publisher and former owner of Paul Cava Gallery in Philadelphia. This exhibition will result in a full color exhibition catalogue to be produced with copies sent to all accepted participating artists.
