Turn an Ordinary Chair Into an Original Work of Art!

What is the Chair-ity Affair?
The Care for Kids Foundation invites Indiana artists to participate in the second annual Chair-ity Affair – a special evening that brings together the arts, businesses and community for a live and silent auction that’s all about CHAIRS! The Chair-ity Affair features two types of chairs – artist chairs and celebrity chairs. The celebrity chairs are personal chairs or autographed chairs donated by national celebrities and professional athletes. Artist chairs are chairs that are designed from scratch or chairs that are completely refurbished. Artists are encouraged to design, paint, build or make over a chair of any type. We don’t care if you paint it, bead it, feather it, reupholster it, or build it from scratch – all chair types and designs are welcome. Chairs can be provided by the Care for Kids Foundation or you may use a chair that you already own or a chair you find.

Proceeds Benefit Care For Kids
Proceeds from the Chair-ity Affair will give foster and underprivileged children the opportunity to attend summer camp at Happy Hollow in Brown County, Indiana. Care for Kids Camp offers children, ages 7 to 14, a traditional camp experience that includes swimming, horseback riding, canoeing, kayaking, arts and crafts, and nature walks. The camp also includes life skill components that help engender a sense of hope, self esteem, self confidence, team building skills and respect for self and others.

The Chair-ity Affair will feature a strolling dinner, live entertainment, and of course, the auction
of your works of art.

Cash Awards: Judging will be done by an independent committee of art enthusiasts. Judging criteria will include how well the chair fits the category, creative use of color and materials, the use of non conventional materials, workmanship and originality. All prizes will be decided and awarded at the event on March 19, 2010 as follows:

Internet Exhibition: Photos of all chairs will be posted on the event website no later
than February 15, 2010.

Eligibility: The Chair-ity Affair is open to all artists working in all media. All forms of painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, graphics, furniture design, digital and installation art are eligible.

Restrictions: All art is limited to chairs.

Deadline: Applications must be received via fax, mail or email by December 1, 2009. A photo of your finished work of art must be delivered no later than February 1, 2010. Electronic files are preferred. This photo will be posted along with your ‘before’ photo on the Chair-ity Affair website. Chairs will be delivered directly to the venue the week prior to the event. Artist Attendance at Event: All participating artists are encouraged to attend the event. Artists will be introduced as well as recognized in the event program. Participating artists will receive two complimentary tickets (one for artist and one for a guest, $100 value).

Entry Fee: There is no entry fee to participate; however, artist must donate their chair to the Care for Kids’ Chair-ity Affair to be included in the live or silent auction on March 19, 2010. The Care for Kids Foundation is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit foundation and donations are tax deductible as allowed by law.
