The Phoenix Public Art Program invites artists to apply for the Avenida Rio Salado/Broadway Road Public Art Project, to work with the Office of Cultural Affairs, the Phoenix Street Transportation and Water Services Departments, the project design team and the community to design improvements for a major city of Phoenix street.
Avenida Rio Salado/Broadway Road Public Art Project
A professional artist will be selected to participate on an engineering team to design streetscape enhancements along a segment of Avendia Rio Salado/Broadway Road (ARS) from 7th Street to 51st Avenue. This is a federal aid project, and will be coordinated with the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). The overall project intent is to design and build a new six-lane urban arterial roadway along some sections of the existing corridor, and expand existing two-lane roadways to six lanes, providing three lanes of travel in each direction with a raised median.
The selection panel will be looking for an artist with the savvy and vision to be a part of a major design team effort. The selected artist will work with the design team, the Office of Cultural Affairs, the above-mentioned city departments, the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) and neighboring communities to develop final project enhancements, which may include but not be limited to transit shelters, sidewalk and trail enhancements.

$892,000 (includes design, engineering, construction and administration)
ELIGIBILITY
This project is open to all professional artists living in the United States. Applicants must have the demonstrated ability to integrate art with urban infrastructure and amenities, and to work effectively in a team and with communities. Professional artists living in Arizona are strongly encouraged to apply for this project. City of Phoenix staff and their family members, and selection panelists and their family members, are excluded from applying for this project.
SELECTION PROCESS
Artists for this project will be chosen by a selection panel that includes community representatives, artists, arts professionals, and a staff member from the funding department. There may also be non-voting advisors on the panel. The Public Art Program staff facilitates the selection process, but does not vote. The final recommendation of the selection panel must be approved by The Phoenix Arts and Culture Commission and the Phoenix City Council prior to the award of a contract. The applicant pool for this project may be considered for other City of Phoenix public art opportunities.
The primary criteria for selection will be the artistic excellence of previous projects, as demonstrated through the images submitted to the selection panel. Professional experience an the statement describing the artist’s project approach will also be considered. Up to six finalists may be selected to develop proposals for this project. Finalists will be given four to six weeks to produce proposals for final consideration by the artist selection panel
SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS
To be considered for the Avenida Rio Salado/Broadway Road Public Art Project, artists must submit:
1. Ten digital images of previously completed artwork, presented in a PowerPoint on a PC compatible CD-ROM formatted as follows:
PowerPoint Slide background-Black
Slide # 1-Artist name(s) only
Slide 2 thru 11-One image per PowerPoint Slide, with a title (at the top)
Titles should correspond with titles on the printed image list
2. One copy of an annotated, typewritten image list identifying images by number and listing media, size of the work (H x W x D), title, date and a brief description of the artwork if necessary.
3. The resume should be no more than two pages and printed on white paper in no less than 10-point font.
4. Application materials and CD’s will not be returned upon completion of the selection process. If you strongly feel you need the CD back please include a stamped envelope (SASE) with sufficient postage for the return of your CD.
5. One copy of a written preliminary statement, not to exceed one page, which addresses your interest in this project (please specify) and a preliminary statement describing how you would approach the project (NOTE: this is not intended to be a description of a specific proposal/idea, selected finalists will be accorded the opportunity to develop a proposal). The statement must be submitted on white paper and in no less than a 12-point font.
DO NOT SEND ORIGINAL ARTWORK
Applicants are strongly encouraged to retain a complete copy of their application for their records. Late applications will not be considered. Do not bind or staple materials. Every effort will be made to ensure the safe handling of materials submitted. However, the Phoenix Office of Cultural Affairs and the City of Phoenix will not be responsible for any loss or damage. Submissions will be accepted only in Power Point Format. DO NOT STAPLE OR BIND any of the written materials.

The Phoenix Public Art Program invites artists to apply for a major new public art project to design enhancements for street bridges spanning the city’s canals.
Arterial Crossings Public Art Project
A professional artist will be selected to work with the Street Transportation Department to enhance the design of major street bridges that cross the Salt River Valley canals in Phoenix. The designs will be expected to focus on the bridges’ concrete abutments and metal railings, and address the essential role the canals play in the history and life of Phoenix. The designs will be incorporated into retrofits of the bridges as funds become available in the coming years.

$386,000 (includes design, engineering, construction and administration)

South Bend Museum of Art Seeks Outdoor Sculpture

installation/exhibition will highlight 10 artists.
Works can be steel, bronze, wood, stone, or synthetic materials and should be substantial enough to stand up to the elements and limited public interaction for the two year period. Sculptures will be installed on 12’ X 12’ cement pads with individual signs and night lighting. Artists will receive a $1,200 stipend ($600 on delivery/$600 on pick-up). Installation will take place during early-mid June 2010.
Please send a resume, 10 images of current work, SASE and a description or documentation of the proposed work for exhibition. Deadline is April 1, 2010.

Community Hospital South Seeks Indiana Artists

The Community Health Network Foundation (CHNF) and Community Hospital South have partnered with the Arts Council of Indianapolis once again to acquire artwork in an effort to build a meaningful permanent collection for its south campus currently under construction. In 2006, the CHNF purchased artwork from more than 50 Indiana artists for the newly designed Community Hospital North. With such success at the North campus, the foundation now desires to create a similar environment at the South campus. The original artwork will be displayed in the waiting areas, main lobby, major corridors and other public spaces within the hospital.
Eligibility: All professional visual artists living in Indiana are encouraged to submit proposed images. Please note that artists living in or having a connection to Greenwood or the south side of Indianapolis are especially encouraged to submit. Artists that live in the central Indiana region are also encouraged to join the Arts Council of Indianapolis’ on-line artist database (click [here] to join) prior to submitting their proposed images. If you are already included in the indyarts artist database, make sure your images and information are updated before you submit to this call. You can double check by clicking [here].
Selection Criteria: Artwork should fit naturally into a contemporary setting. Abstract and non-objective works are preferred, but more naturalistic works will be considered. The artwork should reflect and embrace the hospital’s commitment to a healing environment for patients, visitors and staff. Specifically, the committee is looking for works that create a colorful, energetic, interesting, yet peaceful and soothing environment. Artwork Sought: two-dimensional, three-dimensional and reproductions.
• The project requires 32 pieces of original two-dimensional artwork (or wall art). The committee is open to all media including, but not limited to painting, printmaking, textiles, mixed media, etc.
• The project requires two small interior three-dimensional sculptures to be placed in the Dining Room. The committee is open to all media including, but not limited to metals, ceramics, stone, etc.
• The project requires one large three dimensional mobile to be hung in the Emergency Department entry vestibule. The committee is open to all media appropriate for a suspended structure. Artists submitting for the mobile are asked to submit examples of past work for qualification purposes only. Artist should not submit a specific proposal until they are contacted by the committee. Architectural and structural schematics will be available to artists who are invited to meet with the committee to discuss their proposals.
• The project requires one exterior three-dimensional sculpture to be placed in a rooftop garden space. The sculpture will be viewed from multiple angles and views. The committee is open to any medium that is durable and can withstand the elements.
• In addition, the project requires 52 Giclée prints and/or photography. The committee is seeking artists who are willing to reproduce their work as quality Giclée prints. Note: If you are submitting for the Giclée/photography portion of the project only, you do not need to submit images through this call, simply contact Brandi Cassis for instructions.
Timeline:
• Deadline for submissions: Monday, October 12. All submissions must be received via postal mail or hand delivered to the Arts Council office at 20 N. Meridian St., Ste, 500, Indianapolis, IN 46204.
• Preliminary selections will be made by late October 2009.
• Selected artists will be contacted by early November 2009.
• Selected artists may be asked to present to the committee in person during the weeks of November 6 and November 16, 2009.
• All artwork will be installed in June 2010.
Budget:
• Two-dimensional artwork submitted should be priced at a maximum of $2,000 per piece.
• Interior sculptures should be priced at a maximum of $2,000 per piece.
• Emergency Department mobile should be within a price range of $8,000 - $10,000.
• Exterior sculpture should be within the price range of $10,000 - $15,000.
Selection Committee: Artwork will be chosen by the hospital selection committee which includes hospital administration staff, CHNF staff and interior designers and architects from the project architectural firm with the assistance of an Arts Council project manager.
Guidelines for Submission:
• Artists may submit up to ten images on a CD.
• Images should be professional quality, jpeg files, 72dpi and no larger than 800 pixels in any direction. If high resolution images are needed, those artists will be contacted individually.
• Each submission must include a slide list including title, date, medium, dimensions, price and availability. (Note if each work is available for purchase or an example of past work as the committee may seek to commission a site-specific piece based upon previous work.)
• All work submitted must have been created within the past three years.
• All submissions must include an artist resume or CV.
• All submissions must include an artist statement.
• All submissions must include contact information for the artist and/or appropriate gallery representative including daytime phone, e-mail address and web site if available.
