INDIEana Handicraft Exchange

Application Deadline: July 4, 2009
Show Dates: October 2-3, 2009
Harrison Center for the Arts
1505 N. Delaware
Indianapolis, IN 46202

What is the INDIEana Handicraft Exchange?
• The INDIEana Handicraft Exchange is a D.I.Y. contemporary craft fair that showcases the work of artists and crafters who use traditional crafting techniques mixed with a contemporary edge. Our vendors offer a range of unique handmade goods from wooden jewelry to fanciful undergarments, from custom vintage-inspired western wear to stationery, from plush animals to natural bath and body goodies, from hand-screened rock ‘n’ roll poster art to pop culture icon finger puppets and much, much more. The event features live music and entertainment and more than 50 artisans and crafters from the city, state, and beyond. The IHE is the first and only of its kind in Indianapolis and is currently held biannually.

• Admission into the fair is FREE to the public. Raffle tickets are sold for $2 each, three for $5 or 7 for $10. Patrons (and vendors) may obtain additional raffle tickets by bringing children's arts and craft supplies, or children's art books, for donation at the door the day of the event. Money made from raffle ticket sales is used to purchase arts and craft supplies for the Marion County Children's Guardian Home, as well as for select Indianapolis area public school art programs. Prizes for the raffle are donated by our vendors and local, independent business sponsors.

• The idea for the INDIEana Handicraft Exchange was developed in early 2007 by Amanda Mauer Taflinger. While living in Chicago she participated in the Renegade Craft Fair and became enamored with the contemporary crafting world. After moving back to Indy she decided that not only did her hometown need something similar, but that the city’s growing D.I.Y. art community could, in fact, support it successfully. The inaugural event was held in October 2007 at the Irving Theater in conjunction with the 61st Annual Historic Irvington Halloween Festival. The event has since grown considerably, demanding a larger venue. The IHE moved to the Harrison Center for the Arts in October 2008, to be held in conjunction with IDADA’s wildly popular First Friday gallery openings. In 2009, the event will be held in June in conjunction with the Independent Music + Art Festival, as well as in October once again on the First Friday (and Saturday) of the month.

To apply to be a vendor at the INDIEana Handicraft Exchange fall show on Friday, October 2 & Saturday, October 3, 2009 please fill out the application and email it with your responses and 3-5 jpeg images back to: indieana_handicraft_exchange@yahoo.com

Applications must be received via email no later than Saturday, July 4, 2009. Absolutely no late or incomplete applications will be considered. Before submitting your application, please be sure to thoroughly read the above information to be sure you understand the details of the event.
