Office of the Lieutenant Governor of Indiana
Indianapolis, IN
The Office of the Lieutenant Governor of Indiana is calling for entries for its 2009 Celebration of Hoosier Women Artists.
To celebrate Women's History Month, Lt. Governor Becky Skillman wishes to acknowledge the contribution Hoosier women artists have made to our state. Women artists from Indiana are invited to submit their original artwork for consideration. In March, winning artists will be invited to hang their work in the Lt. Governor's office, where it will be on display for a period of up to one year.

While many might think it's a great opportunity to have the exposure of their art hanging in the Lt. Governor's office, I believe women in particular should be sensitive to the idea that they are being asked to decorate a government official's office for free. I've asked the intern in charge of this show who the judges are for this competition, but have not received a reply so far. I'll update with a comment if there is one.
ReplyDeleteMeanwhile, I suggest any artist who is thinking of entering any show held in an alternative space for the promise of exposure realize that little comes of that most of the time. Is that kind of venue really in your own best interest? Your actions effect others in your profession as well.
